In a heartwarming tale of perseverance and compassion, a dog affectionately nicknamed “Buckethead” has been rescued in Vermont after enduring over a week with a plastic container stuck on his head. The ordeal, which left the dog struggling to eat and drink, finally came to an end thanks to the efforts of local animal control.
The Struggle of ‘Buckethead’
The dog, now known as Bucky or Buckethead, was first spotted in Derby, Vermont, wandering with what looked like a bucket covering his head. Upon closer inspection, it was discovered that the plastic container was actually part of an automatic dog feeder. Unfortunately, the container’s small hole provided Bucky only a limited ability to consume food or water, making survival increasingly difficult as days passed.
The Rescue Mission
Renee Falconer, an Animal Control Officer, took charge of the mission to save Bucky. She shared updates on social media, informing the community of the dog’s plight and rallying support for his rescue. After several days of tracking and planning, Falconer devised a plan to lure Bucky into a trap using an irresistible bait—McDonald’s chicken nuggets.
Despite the challenges posed by the bucket, Bucky managed to shift it enough to eat the nuggets, which ultimately led to his capture on September 1. The relief was palpable as the container was carefully removed, revealing a dog that had endured significant hardship yet displayed remarkable resilience.
A New Chapter for Bucky
Following his rescue, Bucky was found to be underweight but otherwise in decent health considering his ordeal. Falconer is now providing the care and attention he needs to regain his strength. “He snapped out of survival mode very quickly,” Falconer remarked to WPTZ-TV, noting that while Bucky remains cautious around loud noises and vehicles, he is showing signs of being a well-adjusted dog.
Once Bucky has fully recovered, the next step will be to find him a loving forever home where he can enjoy the care and comfort he deserves.
