These magnificent creatures found themselves in a precarious situation after their nest collapsed, leaving them vulnerable and in need of urgent assistance. Thanks to the quick actions of local residents and dedicated wildlife rehabilitators, these eaglets are now on the road to recovery.

The Incident

The story begins on a stormy Saturday near Lake Wausau when a vigilant neighbor, keeping a close watch on a bald eagle nest, noticed something alarming: the nest had fallen during a string of storms. This keen observation set off a series of events that would ultimately save the lives of two helpless eaglets.

The Rescue Mission

Upon learning of the situation, Linda and Kevin Grenzer, the President and Vice President of Loon Rescue, sprang into action. They understood the urgency of the situation; without immediate intervention, the young birds faced a grim fate. “If we didn’t go rescue them, they maybe would have had another day, and then they would have perished,” Linda emphasized, highlighting the critical nature of their mission.

Finding the Eaglets

The rescue began with an initial search for the first eaglet. Linda recounted her experience, stating, “I came across the first eaglet, and he pretty much kind of rolled over and put his legs up like, okay, grab me, I need help.” This eaglet was ready to be rescued, but the whereabouts of its sibling remained unknown. The uncertainty weighed heavily on Linda as she prepared for the worst.

However, as she continued her search, hope flickered when she spotted the second eaglet. “When I turned that corner, it was just like joy in my eyes,” she recalled, relieved to find both eaglets alive and in need of care.

The Journey to Rehabilitation

Once safely retrieved, the Grenzers transported the eaglets to the Raptor Education Group, Inc. (REGI) in Antigo. This esteemed organization specializes in rehabilitating injured and orphaned raptors, making it the perfect destination for the young eagles.

The Grenzers praised REGI’s expertise, stating, “They’re probably the best eagle rehabbers in the world.” With years of experience under their belts, the staff at REGI was ready to nurse the eaglets back to health.

The Importance of Community Awareness

This rescue underscores the vital role of community involvement in wildlife conservation. Without the watchful eyes of local residents, the outcome for these eaglets could have been drastically different. As Marg Gibson, founder of REGI, remarked, “There’s people everywhere, and there’s birds everywhere.

So if you see something that just doesn’t look right, give us a call.” Community vigilance can make all the difference in ensuring the safety of wildlife.
